Octomore 14.2 is a very peaty single malt from Islay (128.9 ppm) from the Bruichladdich distillery. This exceptional whisky was matured in first-fill ex-oloroso casks and first- and second-fill Amarone casks.
Aromas of waxed leather, blackberry coulis and pipe tobacco fill the nose, complemented by notes of black pepper, fruitcake and fire smoke on the palate. With over 200 different types of cask in the warehouse, head distiller Adam Hannett selected casks that had previously contained Oloroso and Amarone from the renowned wine regions of Spain and Italy respectively. The distinct sweetness and nutty flavour of this combination creates an exceptional single malt.
The spirits from the different casks are then blended in French oak, giving the single malt remarkable depth and complexity. Octomore's characteristic peat smoke blends well with the Oloroso sherry casks, the influence of the wood adding a robust and savoury flavour to the final spirit. The oak in the Amarone casks also has a significant impact on the spirit, bringing rich red fruit notes - giving structure and cohesion to the 14.2. Very limited edition.
*PPM - parts per million - of phenolic compounds, measure the impact of oily peat smoke deposited on germinated barley as it dries. The longer the drying time, the higher the ppm value.
La Bruichladdich distillery produces unpeated whisky under its own name, very peated whisky under the name Port Charlotte and extremely peated whisky under the name Octomore.
