Port Ellen First Release 1979 22 yo 70 cl 56.2° C

La Port Ellen Distillerywas founded in 1825 on the island of Islay in Scotland. Originally a malting mill, the distillery produced single malt whisky from 1833 to 1892, and then from 1967 until its closure in 1983. Because of their increasing rarity, the bottles are highly sought-after.

Launched at the end of 2001, the first official edition of Port Ellen since the Rares Malts series began a countdown that has since seen 11 bottlings. Up until the 8th edition, the 1978 and 1979 vintages were interchanged from one year to the next. Since the 9th edition, 1979 has taken pride of place.

All these editions were limited to around 6,000 bottles worldwide (except Edition 2 - 12,000 bottles, and Edition 3 - 9,000 bottles).

Now a collector's item, this first edition is marked by notes of apple, light smoke, liquorice and oak.
