Since 1968, the estate and its wine have enjoyed a long rise to fame, even though until 1994 Sassicaia was considered a table wine, a departure from the strict rules governing the production of wines from the region, which are supposed to be made predominantly from Sangiovese grapes. Since then, the wine from the famous Tenuta San Guido has continued to win unanimous praise from Italian and international critics alike, under the DOC Bolgheri appellation (DOC Bolgheri Sassicaia to be exact). Under the guidance of Giacomo Tachis, one of Italy's most famous oenologists, Mario's son Niccolò Incisa della Rochetta is now taking his turn to develop the legend that has been writing the history of Italy's great wines for almost a century.

2 x Guidalberto 2022 75 cl

 Guidalberto is neither a second Sassicaia nor its second wine, but rather a personality in its own right," comments Marquis Nicolò. The elegant composition is matured for 15 months in barrels and impresses with its silky tannins and spicy tobacco notes.

Intense ruby red colour with purplish tints. Clean, compact nose. Notes of black berries, blackcurrants, cherries and plums. These are combined with spicy floral notes. Cloves, violets and discreet roasted notes come through. On the palate, the wine is very smooth with silky tannins. The finish is long, beautifully complemented by juicy acidity that whets the appetite.

1 x Sassicai 2021 75 cl (the estate's great wine in a great vintage)

For the description of this highly refined, prized red wine of great class and inimitable character, which not only distinguishes the taste of the wine itself, but also traces its history and local tradition, the WINE SHOP relied on the description of the recognised Italian Wine Guide by Gambero Rosso, where Sassicaia was judged with 3 out of 3 glasses in all the reference years and where it was awarded Red of the Year 2013. Tenuta San Guido's Sassicaia red wine is simply perfect. Every word can only seem superfluous and reductive in the face of the magnificence of this wine. The nose is complex, full and multifaceted, with crisp fruit, herbs and roots, undergrowth, iodine, tannin and acidity, an irrepressible, elegant, sinuous structure, a chiaroscuro that gives and withdraws in a marvellous game of seduction. As we said, it's perfection. And for that reason, it's the red of the year for us. Renowned Italian winemaker Daniele Cernilli, artistic director of the famous "doctorwine.it" website, describes it as a wine with a lively, intense ruby colour and good concentration. The aromas are already complex, with fruity blueberry notes, spicy and slightly leathery, with hints of graphite in the background. The palate is taut, very elegant, with fine, barely outlined tannins, comparable to those of the great Pauillacs, but with greater silkiness and an enveloping body that leads to a subtle but extremely long finish. It will only reach perfection after a few years in bottle.
