The secret behind the production of our Classic Laddie is not set in stone; it's the result of a genuine distillation philosophy. We're not interested in creating similar, uniform products. Each year, the diversity and provenance of our barley produce subtly different whiskies. This variety of flavours is further enhanced by the ever-expanding range of casks in which we let them develop and age in our warehouses. This means that each vintage of Classic Laddie is by its very nature unique.

Developing Classic Laddie is one of the most difficult and demanding responsibilities of our master distiller Adam Hannett. It is he who presides over this blend of our finest casks, selected one by one to achieve the fruity, floral style that is emblematic of Bruichladdich. Each recipe goes through a rigorous process. Adam has to smell and taste them systematically, one by one, to assess the aromas, flavours and mouthfeel. It's a long and arduous task, requiring a great deal of concentration and numerous checks and re-evaluations over several weeks. It is in his tasting room that he makes the final composition official.

We bottle our Classic Laddie when it reaches 50 % alcohol by volume, compared to the average 40-46 %. Our 50 % whisky has a strong malty taste, so you can enjoy the full flavour of the Scottish barley we've taken so much care to grow and select. For us, the character and quality of our spirits will always come before profit.
